What is an Essential Oil?

Essential Oils are highly concentrated plant substances.  The practice of using them is called Aromatherapy, a holistic therapy that treats the body, mind and spirit in a gentle, enjoyable way.

How do I know if an essential oil is safe for me?

Always exercise caution when using essential oils.  Do not take essential oils internally, administer to children under 5, during pregnancy or those taking medication.   Seek advice from your medical practitioner if you are unsure about using essential oils.

Be aware that any ingredient has the potential to irritate skin. If you are unsure about an allergic reaction to an essential oil, carry out a patch test first.

How do I carry out a patch test?

Apply a small amount of the substance on your inner arm, just below the elbow, cover with a band-aid and leave for 24 hours.  Should any redness or irritation appear do not use the substance.
